A Gurgaon-based content creator has responded to criticism after revealing that her husband pays her Rs 1,000 for every café-style meal she cooks for him. While many people assumed she was literally charging her husband for food, Priya says that was never the point.

According to her, the arrangement is about recognising the time, effort and creativity that go into preparing special meals at home. She believes that if people are willing to spend money on restaurant food, there is nothing wrong with appreciating the work that goes into making a similar meal at home.

Why She Charges Her Husband

A few weeks ago, Priya shared an Instagram video explaining that she and her husband have a financial agreement. Whenever she prepares a café-quality meal, he pays her Rs 1,000.

In the video, she says, “I charge my husband a thousand rupees per meal. There is a financial contract between me and my husband. I make the food taste and look cafe like while he pays for it. I know many people will say that that’s what a wife does but this wife doesn’t.”

“For generations women have been doing it all. When you can pay for the same food by eating out, it is more convenient. Money stays in home, efforts are being appreciated and we both enjoying the recipes overall. While I do that why don’t you try it too?”

She captioned the post, “I meannn… Who won’t pay for a plate like that Ft. Dan Dan Noodles.” The video has now been viewed more than 1.2 million times on Instagram. While some people praised the idea, others called her “materialistic” and “disrespectful.”

She Responds To The Criticism

After the backlash, Priya clarified that people had misunderstood the message behind the video. She explained that it was never about a husband and wife charging each other. Instead, she wanted to highlight the value of domestic work and the effort that goes into cooking a good meal. According to her, the money stays within the family while also showing appreciation for the work involved.

The discussion also spread to the comments section, where users shared different opinions. One user wrote, “I need to do this now.” Another commented, “Vaah kya idea he .. loved it and applied today itself.” A person said, “Thank you so much for the idea , ab hoga come back.”

Others had questions about how the arrangement works. One user asked, “Imp que: does he pay for groceries or you do?” Another wrote, “Finally a woman charging for domestic labour.”

Not everyone agreed with the idea. One comment read, “If you pay for the ingredients and gas then it makes sense.” Another user defended the couple, writing, “It’s funny how ppl are losing their s*** over this… chillax … don’t like… move on… they like it… that’s what matters…”
