Gumla Observation Home Escape: Three Juveniles Flee After Scaling Wall

Gumla: Three inmates of the Gumla Observation Home escaped after scaling the boundary wall early Friday morning. Police said two of the inmates are from Lohardaga district, while the third is from Ghaghra police station area of Gumla. The facility is located at Silam, around 4 km from Gumla town.In Sept, 2025, too, two inmates escaped in a similar way. They were later caught after 10 days from Dumardih village.“The trio, first tore our bedsheet, made it like a rope. Then they used an old cemented (concrete) slab having iron rods which they bent like hooks and put it in open space of barbed wire fencing over the boundary wall. They caught it in hooks before climbing up the wall and fled,” Gumla deputy superintendent of police Birendra Toppo said after visiting the home for a probe.“More than 60 juveniles from three districts of Gumla, Simdega and Lohardaga are lodged in this observation home. Investigation is underway to ascertain the negligence on part the security guards posted for duty there. Police are trying to arrest the inmates,” Toppo said.
