HYDERABAD
Former Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TSHRC) chairman Justice G. Chandraiah (72) passed away in Hyderabad on Saturday, while undergoing treatment. The last rites will be performed at Mahaprasthanam in Film Nagar on Sunday.
Born in Timmapur village of Jannaram mandal in the erstwhile Adilabad district to Gunda Beerpuri and Marthamma, Justice Chandraiah rose from an agriculturist family background to a distinguished career in law and public service. He completed his schooling in Timmapur and Tapalapur before pursuing higher education at Government Arts and Science College, Adilabad. He later obtained LL.B., M.A. (Political Science), and LL.M. degrees from Osmania University (OU).
He enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh on November 6, 1980. He later served as Government Pleader in two terms between 1991-95 and 1999-2002. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on May 26, 2005, and became a permanent judge on February 20, 2006. He retired on May 9, 2016 upon attaining superannuation.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and others condoled his death.
