Former AAP convener joins Congress

Margao: Rahul Mhambre, who had earlier served as AAP’s Goa state convener, joined Congress on Tuesday in Panaji.Mhambre had taken over as AAP’s interim state convener in Sep 2020, after former Goa Civil Service bureaucrat Elvis Gomes stepped down from the post, having earlier served as the party’s spokesperson. He contested the 2022 assembly election from Mapusa but finished third behind BJP and Congress candidates.Mhambre thus becomes the third among former AAP state chiefs to join Congress, after Gomes and Amit Palekar.Welcoming him into the Congress, Chodankar said the party continued to be the preferred platform for those committed to democracy and Goa’s welfare.Mhambre said he had joined the Congress after careful consideration, describing it as the only party capable of protecting democracy and safeguarding Goa’s identity, and pledged to work for the rights of Goans at the grassroots.
