A massive fire erupted in a school at Nagadevanahalli in west Bengaluru on May 30 morning, triggering panic in the neighbourhood. The staff was evacuated on time. No one was hurt in the incident.
According to sources, the fire broke out in the school auditorium, located on the top floor. A preliminary probe suggested that a short circuit triggered the blaze, but the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.
A Fire and Emergency Services Department source told The Hindu that they received a call around 9.55 a.m., following which three fire tenders were dispatched to the spot. It took about an hour to contain the fire, and nearly two hours to completely bring the situation under control.
“There were very few people inside the school, and everyone was evacuated safely. Initial information we received was that the school had a parent-teacher meeting, but there weren’t many people present,” the source said.
According to him, as the fire originated in an auditorium, it spread rapidly through the establishment. Several documents and files were reduced to ashes, the source added.
