‘Feeling Shocked’: Ex-Visa Employee Says Entire Team, Including High-Performing Manager In Bengaluru, Was Laid Off

As payments giant Visa cuts around 7 per cent of its global workforce, affecting nearly 2,600 employees, the layoffs have sparked conversation after a former employee claimed that even high-performing staff were not spared. In a post shared on X, the ex-Visa employee shared that his former manager in Bengaluru, whom he described as someone who consistently performed, was among those who got laid off.

The former Visa employee, Arnab Das, wrote, “My entire team at Visa just got laid off, including my manager.” He went on to describe his former manager as someone who had consistently delivered exceptional results. “The guy had end-to-end ownership of the product, outstanding performance reviews every cycle, and was probably the last person you’d expect to be let go,” he wrote.

Expressing his disbelief, he added, “Feeling shocked. And strangely lucky that I left Visa.”

“Surprising And Sad”

His post quickly drew the attention of many professionals, many of whom pointed out that layoffs are often driven by business priorities rather than individual performance.

“Layoffs have literally nothing to do with performance. When it comes down to cost-cutting, 1st they look for redundant roles, and then they target fat paychecks employees,” a user commented.

“Visa?? Surprising and sad, know some good folks there, hope they are not impacted. I thought Visa were expanding the Bangalore office massively. Of course, we live in a twilight era where both layoffs and expansion are possible,” an individual shared.

Another person said, “It’s a complete bloodbath; everyone is so anxious. Don’t know what to do and what not to do as well. Can’t focus on work, I don’t know how they expect people to work under such circumstances.”

“‘The guy had…’ nothing matters. It’s not a performance-based layoff. It’s literally cost-cutting,” someone else pointed out.

Why Visa Laid Off 7 Per Cent Of Its Workforce?

The layoffs come as Visa undertakes a broader restructuring aimed at improving operational efficiency. The decision was communicated by Visa Chief Executive Officer Ryan McInerney in an internal memo, where he wrote, “I have deep conviction that we are doing what is right for Visa, our clients and our partners as we continue to focus on driving efficiency across the company in order to reinvest in our highest potential opportunities.”
