Davanagere: Police have arrested a woman and her son for allegedly murdering the woman’s husband and attempting to conceal the crime. The accused have been identified as Savitramma, 40, and her son Hanumegowda, 20.The murder of Shivappa, 42, took place on June 23 in Chikkabidari village of Harihar taluk. Harihar Rural police registered a case and, during the investigation, found that Savitramma allegedly killed her husband by striking him with a stone, while Hanumegowda is accused of helping transport the body. Both were taken into custody.Police said the couple frequently quarrelled as Shivappa allegedly returned home drunk and created disturbances. Frustrated by his behaviour, Savitramma allegedly attacked him when no one else was around. These details emerged during questioning, police said.According to investigators, Shivappa had collapsed behind the house after sustaining a head injury and fallen asleep. Believing it was an opportunity to end the harassment, Savitramma allegedly lifted a stone and dropped it on him. Later that night, the mother and son reportedly carried the body out of the house, left it in the backyard and cleaned bloodstains in an attempt to destroy evidence.Police said Savitramma initially claimed that unknown persons had murdered her husband and repeated the same version during preliminary questioning. However, Hanumegowda later disclosed details of the incident, leading investigators to unravel the case.Following the murder, forensic experts, fingerprint specialists and a dog squad examined the spot. Harihar Rural police subsequently uncovered the wife’s alleged involvement in the crime. Both accused were arrested and remanded to judicial custody, according to SP Shekhar HT.Providing details, the SP said Shivappa, a daily wage labourer, often returned home intoxicated and allegedly harassed his wife by questioning her character. Savitramma reportedly confessed that she killed him out of frustration, while Hanumegowda admitted to helping move the body, he said.
