Excise STF busts non-duty-paid liquor racket, seizes bottles worth ₹2 lakh

The Excise Special Task Force (STF) has busted an inter-State non-duty-paid liquor racket operating on the outskirts of Hyderabad, seizing 98 liquor bottles worth around ₹2 lakh and confiscating a car used to transport the contraband.

Two of the accused, identified as Kuntimalli Srinivas and P.V.V.S. Ramakrishna of Ibrahimpatnam, allegedly travelled to Goa on frequent weekend trips, where they visited casinos before purchasing liquor bottles to bring back by air, and sell in Telangana for a profit.

According to the Excise Department, Srinivas also runs a grocery store and allegedly sold liquor to his customers and people organising private events.

Acting on specific information, Excise STF teams conducted vehicle checks near Pahadishareef, close to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, early on Tuesday. Officials seized 42 liquor bottles from the car used by the two accused and another 56 bottles from other vehicles during the operation.

The car used to transport the liquor was also seized. The bottles and the vehicle were handed over to the Shamshabad Excise Station staff for further action.

Further investigation is under way.
