Belagavi: Tension gripped the district Congress committee office in Belagavi on Monday after a heated exchange broke out during a meeting convened by AICC observer Manoj Chavan to seek opinions from party office-bearers on the appointment of the new city Congress president.According to sources, trouble began after former MLA Ramesh Kudachi voiced dissatisfaction over the functioning of the district unit. The disagreement quickly escalated into a commotion, with party workers and leaders engaging in heated arguments and verbal confrontations inside the office premises.Kudachi alleged that his close aide, Hemant Lengade, was assaulted during the disturbance. Sources within the party said some leaders were unhappy with Lengade over social media posts that were reportedly critical of the Congress leadership.As tensions mounted, personnel from Market police station rushed to the spot and intervened to restore order.The incident exposed simmering factional tensions within the local Congress unit at a time when consultations are underway for the appointment of a new city party chief. The meeting, intended to gather feedback from office-bearers, was briefly disrupted before the situation was brought under control.
