The electric two-wheeler market stayed put its rapid expansion in May 2026 as retail sales crossed the 1.7 lakh unit mark for the first time this year. According to FADA retail data, total electric scooter and motorcycle registrations stood at 1,70,733 units last month compared to 1,04,896 units in May 2025 with a massive 62.8 per cent year-on-year increase.
Sales also improved by 8.5 per cent over April 2026. TVS Motor Company emerged as the largest electric two-wheeler retailer in the country last month. The Hosur-based manufacturer registered 42,459 units – gaining 64.5 per cent over the corresponding month last year as its growth was aided by continued popularity of the iQube and Orbiter range.
TVS also maintained a healthy lead over its nearest rivals. Bajaj Auto secured second position with 39,202 units – posting a 73.1 per cent year-on-year increase. The gap between TVS and Bajaj remained relatively small – indicating a closely contested battle for leadership in the electric two-wheeler segment for the foreseeable future.

Ather Energy retained third place with 28,240 retail registrations. While sales were marginally lower than April 2026, the Bengaluru-based company still doubled its volumes compared to the same month last year – recording growth of 100.3 per cent. Expansion of the Rizta family scooter lineup alongside the established 450 series has helped it immensely.
The biggest surprise came from Hero MotoCorp. The country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer recorded 19,067 retail registrations with an impressive 158.2 per cent year-on-year jump. Continued expansion of the Vida electric scooter range and wider dealership reach appear to be contributing significantly to Hero’s rapid growth. Ola Electric’s sales remained moderate despite recording a month-on-month improvement.

Its retail figures increased to 15,141 units from 12,331 units in April 2026 but volumes were still 20.2 per cent lower than May 2025. Among emerging brands, Greaves Electric Mobility registered 7,695 units and posted 77.9 per cent growth. River Mobility continued its upward trajectory with 3,720 units – recording a 245.1 per cent increase. BGauss also crossed 3,000 unit sales with 3,297 registrations and more than tripled its volumes compared to a year ago.
