Kanpur: A 29-year-old dumper driver died after his vehicle plunged into the Betwa river in Hamirpur district after crashing through a bridge railing at around 1.30 am late Wednesday, police said. The vehicle was travelling from Kanpur to Mahoba when the accident took place.The deceased was identified through an Aadhaar card found on him as Rajkumar, a resident of Miraj Purwa, Ragaul, under Maudaha police station. Kotwali Nagar Police launched a rescue operation after receiving information about the accident. With the help of local boatmen, police rescued the driver who was trapped inside the cabin of the dumper that had fallen into the river and sent him to the district hospital by ambulance, where doctors declared him dead.The body was sent for post-mortem. According to police, prima facie, the dumper went out of control and fell into the river after breaking through the bridge railing.
