Prayagraj: The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) will introduce designated parking and no-parking zones in Civil Lines to streamline traffic and curb frequent snarls.Under the plan, MG Marg and SP Marg will be developed as parking-friendly stretches, where vehicles will be allowed to park in service lanes. In contrast, Nawab Yusuf Road, Cooper Road and Stanley Road will be declared no-parking zones. The civic body will install signboards at various locations to clearly mark parking and no-parking areas. Officials said the tender process for operating parking zones has already begun, and the system is expected to be rolled out in July. Shops or establishments found to be operating illegally near the service lanes on the designated parking roads will also be removed to create proper space.Municipal commissioner Sai Teja said the initiative is expected to provide major relief from traffic snarls in Civil Lines. He added that the firm awarded the parking contract will not charge any fee for the first two months, though it will issue receipts and ensure that vehicles are parked only at designated spots. In another development, the municipal corporation is also moving to improve public services at its zonal offices, where a shortage of computer operators has been causing delays in the issuance of birth and death certificates and affecting other civic services. To address the problem, two computer operators will be deployed in each zonal office. Interviews for the posts have been conducted and the appointments are likely to be made within the next 10 to 12 days.
