A routine Rapido ride to work turned into a terrifying ordeal for a woman in Delhi after the two-wheeler driver allegedly took her through an isolated route and refused to stop despite her requesting him repeatedly. Fearing for her safety, the woman had to finally jump from the moving vehicle, which left her injured.
Through an Instagram post, the woman, named Ayesha Srivastav, shared that she had booked a Rapido to commute to her workplace. Midway through the ride, the driver allegedly took an unfamiliar road and led her toward what she described as a deserted area, saying it was a “direct way” to Vishwavidyalaya.
But the woman grew suspicious after noticing that the road appeared isolated. She then asked the driver to either change the route or stop the scooter, but he refused to do so. She recalled that she even offered to pay the driver extra money if he stopped, but he continued to drive along that way.
She even hit the driver in an attempt to make him stop, but he did not. Having no other way out, the woman ultimately decided to jump off the moving scooter. The fall left her with injuries to her hands, legs and head and she needed medical attention.
If that was not already harrowing, Ayesha also expressed anger over Rapido’s initial response to her complaint. She said she did not receive a response from customer care, and that’s why she decided to share the matter on social media to demand action against him.
“Rapido, I need the details of the driver, and I want to know what are you going to do about this I want the resolution ASAP with all the details of the driver,” she wrote in the caption of the post. “It is about women’s safety what you are doing for us everyday thousands of women take Rapido to commute, and this is a huge safety measure here! I want that Driver punished.”
Rapido Responded To Her Complaint By Suspending The Driver’s License
After the incident gained attention online, Rapido responded to her post and acknowledged the seriousness. They wrote in the comments, “We sincerely understand your concern regarding the reported safety issue and the seriousness of the matter. At Rapido, customer safety and respect are our top priorities, and we do not tolerate any inappropriate behaviour or misconduct from captains.”
Later in another update, they shared that they have permanently suspended the driver’s license from the platform, stating, “As discussed with you over the call, we fully take cognisance of the issue, and the reported captain has been permanently suspended from the platform. The captain details have also been shared with you via email for necessary legal proceedings.”
They added, “Please know that we are standing by you through this. We will continue to support you in every way possible, including with any legal or medical assistance you may need. We’re here and will remain available should you need any further support.”
“Safety Kisi Ke Pass Bhi Nahi Hai”
The incident has once again raised concerns about women’s safety in the country, with a person asking, “Dear, hope you are ok and u also report this to police, as ye sab regular hota jaa raha hy and plzz stay strong.”
“Jab tak us driver ko punishment nahi milte rukna mat,” another said.
“All Rapido drivers are unprofessional, careless, and chor. Rapido company koi action nahi lete inke upar,” commented an individual.
“Inme se safety kisi k pass v nahi hai; Ola, Uber, Rapido koi v response nahi milta hai,” said a different person.
Meanwhile, someone else shared, “The same thing happened with me three months back, and I didn’t get any response.”
