Davanagere: Davanagere police on Tuesday returned stolen property worth Rs 3.9 crore to its rightful owners after solving 87 cases, including house burglaries and temple thefts.The recovered property from police stations across the district was displayed at an event before being handed over to claimants following court approval, in the presence of SP HT Shekar. Residents expressed gratitude after recovering their cash, gold and silver ornaments, vehicles, mobile phones and other valuables.“Since Jan, police have solved several cases across the district. We have recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 2.1 crore, cash worth Rs 90 lakh, vehicles worth Rs 22 lakh, mobile phones worth Rs 56 lakh and agricultural equipment worth Rs 4 lakh. The recovered property also includes 18kg of silver and 1.6kg of gold, all of which have been returned to their rightful owners,” SP Shekar said.He said the accused in the Jain temple theft case was arrested in Surat, Gujarat. In another house burglary and gold theft case, the accused was traced to Madhya Pradesh. “The police department is committed to ensuring justice for victims,” he added.Responding to a query on the alleged multi-crore cheating case involving maize trader Shivalingayya Gadigudal, the SP said a proposal along with relevant records had been submitted regarding the investigation.“A case registered in 2021-22 has been fully investigated and a chargesheet has been filed. The probe was conducted under the supervision of senior officers. At the complainant’s request, we are ready to transfer the investigation to the CID,” he said. DSPs BS Basavaraj, Sharana Basaveshwara, Tippeswamy and Nagappa Bankali were present.
