Kalaburagi: Farmers from several gram panchayats in Afzalpur taluk have alleged that they are yet to receive the second instalment of crop insurance compensation under the Bhima Fasal Yojana for losses caused by excessive rainfall during the 2025-26 season.The affected farmers belong to eight gram panchayats, including Bairamadagi, Madara (B), Koganur, Gudur, Gaura (B), Chowdapur, Bandarwada and Hasaragundagi. They claimed that despite sustaining heavy crop losses, the pending compensation has not been released even after more than a year.Farmer leader Gundu Patil told TOI that crops were severely damaged due to heavy rains in 2025-26, but eligible farmers are still waiting for the second instalment of compensation. The delay, he said, has pushed many cultivators into financial distress.Farmers urged authorities to conduct an immediate inspection and release the pending insurance amount to all eligible beneficiaries. They also demanded action against officials allegedly responsible for lapses in the survey and compensation distribution process.Warning of a protest, farmers said they would block the state highway in Atanur hobli and stage a massive demonstration involving thousands of cultivators outside the deputy commissioner’s office if their demands are not met within seven days.Farmer leader Sangaiah Swamy Math said a memorandum had already been submitted to the deputy commissioner, but no action had been taken so far. He added that farmers are facing fresh hardships this year as inadequate monsoon rainfall has affected crops after they invested borrowed money in sowing and fertilisers. “Timely release of the pending compensation will provide much-needed relief to struggling farmers,” he said.
