Bengaluru: Stepping out to buy vegetables proved costly for a family after burglars broke into their locked apartment in Thyagarajanagar, south Bengaluru, and made away with gold jewellery, silver coins, US dollars and cash. The theft came to light when the couple returned home to find their valuables missing.Shripal Kumar, 34, said he and his wife locked their flat and went out at 11.30am on July 7 to buy vegetables. When they returned around noon, they found the main door of the flat ajar. On entering the house, they found burglars had broken the main door, forced open the bedroom cupboard drawer and stolen the valuables kept inside.The valuables include two pairs of gold bangles, three pairs of gold earrings, two gold chains, a bracelet, two mangalsutras, two rings, two gold coins and a gold bar, altogether weighing over 118 grams; silver coins weighing about 50 grams, Rs 80,000 in cash, and 500 US dollars.Kumar alerted Basavanagudi police, who rushed to the spot along with scene of crime officers and the fingerprint bureau, and collected evidence. A case has been registered under Sections 305 (theft in a dwelling house or means of transportation or place of worship, etc.) and 311 (punishment for house-trespass or housebreaking).
