Conman who posed as BJP MLA from Borivli, his PA, held from Lucknow
Police said the accused is a native of Punjab.

Mumbai: A 44-year-old man was arrested from Lucknow by the Borivli police for posing as BJP MLA Sanjay Upadhyay on one occasion and his personal assistant on another occasion to cheat people. Police said the accused, B Pal, a native of Punjab, asked the complainant to transfer enrollment fees for a student at Lucknow University, but the bank details provided were his own.The 46-year-old complainant told the Borivli police that he received a call over WhatsApp from Pal on July 7. He claimed to be the personal assistant of MLA Upadhyay. Later, he contacted the complainant impersonating Upadhyay as well. He asked the complainant to pay enrollment fees for a female student at Lucknow University. He provided bank details, to which the complainant transferred a small sum of Rs 110.The accused also got in touch with a friend of the complainant and got him to book a hotel room in Lucknow. The friend of the complainant paid Rs 8,000 for the hotel room. The duo later realised they had been cheated.After an FIR was registered, DCP Sandeep Ghuge and senior inspector Pushpalata Mandle formed a team and sent them to Lucknow to make inquiries. They tracked down Pal through technical surveillance and took him into custody. Police said Pal is a native of Punjab. Earlier, another case of cheating was registered against him at Dahisar Police station.
