The Tamil Nadu unit of Congress has extended its support to Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government, but on one condition: keep “communal forces” that do not believe in the Constitution of India out of the alliance. The Congress did not name any rival party in its statement, but the red line for TVK was widely seen as a clear reference to the BJP.

“Our support shall be conditional upon the TVK keeping out from this alliance any

communal forces that do not believe in the Constitution of India,” Congress Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar stated in the release.

Chodankar also said that this alliance is not only for the formation of this government, but also for future elections to the local body organisations, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
