Chennai: Chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Tuesday met Tamil rapper Arivu alias Arivarasu Kalainesan who protested against NEET in front of the Secretariat and got detained.Hours after Arivu’s protest seeking a ban on NEET and his meeting with Vijay, TVK said moving education to the state list was the only solution to the issue. “Education should be moved to the State List. If there are legal or constitutional hurdles in doing so, then, as an interim measure, a Special Concurrent List should be created. This would enable states to exercise full authority over education, including medical education,’’ said a statement posted by TVK on X.TVK said the party wanted a complete abolition of NEET, rather than removal of discrepancies on conduct of the exam. “But TVK would not stage a drama saying we would remove Neet on our own,’’ the statement said in an apparent dig at the DMK.Earlier in the day, Arivu created a flutter outside the secretariat by raising slogans against NEET and demanded chief minister Vijay to voice out his views. Police prevented him from continuing his protest and forcibly took him away from the spot.Vijay learned about the incident and instructed the police to bring Arivu to his chamber in the secretariat. After a brief meeting with Vijay, Arivu left secretrariat. PWD minister Aadhav Arjuna was seen accompanying Arivu when he left secretariat.Meanwhile, leader of opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin condemned TVK govt for detaining Arivu. Udhayanidhi said on X that the TVK govt was attempting to silence voices opposing the entrance examination.“The voices raised against NEET deserve to be heard, not silenced. Arivu’s voice reflected the sentiments of not only Tamil Nadu but also millions of people across the country,” Udhayanidhi said.
