A shocking video showing a young boy hitting his mother with a bat to get hold of her phone has gone viral, leaving social media users stunned and sparking a fierce debate about children’s screen habits.
In the clip, a woman can be seen sitting on the ground and talking on her phone. Moments later, her son approaches from behind, carrying a bat, and strikes her on the head. The woman immediately collapses, while the boy takes the phone from her hand and calmly sits down to use it. The disturbing footage quickly spread across social media, attracting millions of views and reactions.
The video triggered a wave of concern among viewers, many of whom linked the incident to children’s growing dependence on smartphones. “This is what happens when a phone becomes more important than human relationships,” one user wrote.
Another commented, “Parents give children screens to keep them busy, but they don’t realise the long-term impact.”
كثير من الآباء،… pic.twitter.com/DysskidilN

Several users described the clip as “terrifying” and “a wake-up call for parents.”
Many commenters were particularly disturbed by the child’s reaction after the incident. “The scary part isn’t the hit, it’s how normal the child looked afterwards,” one person wrote. Another user said, “He didn’t even check if his mother was okay. He just wanted the phone.”
These reactions were echoed across the comment section, with many people expressing concern over how attached some children have become to digital devices. “It’s truly concerning! Because the isolation and aggression stemming from screen device use in children will greatly impact their future. What do you think about educating children to prevent this from happening?” A user commented.
At the same time, not everyone agreed that screen time alone was to blame. Several users argued that the video should not be used as proof that smartphones directly cause violent behaviour.
“Bad parenting cannot be blamed entirely on technology,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “We don’t know the full story, so people should stop jumping to conclusions.” Others pointed out that a short viral clip cannot reveal the complete circumstances behind an incident.
Despite the differing opinions, the video has reignited discussions about parenting and children’s use of technology. Many users shared stories about limiting screen time at home, while others called for parents to encourage more outdoor activities and face-to-face interaction. “Phones should be a tool, not a babysitter,” one widely liked comment read.
