An 82-year-old Indian woman travelling from Bengaluru to Seattle with her family was stopped in Singapore after officials found that her US visitor visa had been revoked. She was then sent back to India. The woman was travelling with her US citizen son and daughter-in-law.

The family said they were not told why she could not continue the journey at first, but later found a possible reason linked to her previous US trip.

Her Visa Was Revoked During The Journey

The woman’s son-in-law shared details of the incident on Reddit. He said the family was travelling from Bengaluru to Seattle via Singapore on Singapore Airlines.

“My wife (US citizen), my son (US citizen) and mother in law (Indian citizen, 82 years) were traveling from Bengaluru to Seattle via Singapore (Singapore Airlines),” the Reddit user wrote.

According to him, everything went smoothly at Bengaluru airport and all three passengers boarded the flight. However, things changed after they reached Singapore.

“Everything went fine in Bengaluru. They boarded the flight. But, in Singapore, my MIL was denied entry as her visa had been revoked. No reasons given. No documentation presented. Just denied entry to the flight. Now, all of them are coming back to India to drop the MIL back.”

The family later said the woman had a 10-year US visitor visa that was issued three years ago. She had also visited the US before.

The Family Later Found A Possible Reason

In an update, the Reddit user said they checked her US travel records after someone suggested looking at the I-94 information on the US Department of Homeland Security website. They found that the woman had stayed in the US for two days longer than allowed during her previous visit in 2025.

“After someone here suggested checking the travel history and i94 online DHS website, we found that she overstayed 2 days in her previous visit in 2025. You can get the latest i94 by doing ‘get the most recent i-94/i-95’ after you retrieve travel history.”

The family had initially been unsure why her visa had been revoked.

Reddit Users Discuss What May Have Happened

Several users shared possible explanations and similar experiences. A person asked about her earlier visits and said, “How frequently has she visited on this Visa before and what were the durations of visit. This can happen if there was some kind of overstay or there is suspicion that the intent is immigration -i.e. she lands there and then applies for a green card (US citizen daughter).”

Another user shared a similar case involving a parent who was stopped while travelling through Qatar. They said the visa was reportedly revoked after officials noticed repeated long stays in the US.

A third user asked, “What visa was she on? A regular tourist 10-year validity B1 visa?” The original poster replied, “Yes”.

Another person questioned why the issue was not caught when the woman boarded in Bengaluru. “While boarding (in India), they check their visa. I thought they validated it. But if she was allowed to board in India and denied during a transit flight, it makes me wonder what triggered it.”

They also suggested contacting a US congressman or the Indian consulate to seek more information.
