A viral social media post claims that a Samsung Galaxy S26 exploded inside a Ghaziabad man’s pocket, causing severe burns to his hands and lower body. The incident has sparked outrage online, with several users demanding answers from Samsung over the phone’s alleged battery failure.
According to a post circulating on Reddit and later shared on X, the man, identified as Majid, was travelling from Ghaziabad to his village in Dankaur, Greater Noida, when he noticed that his approximately one-month-old smartphone had become unusually hot.
The post claims that the device began emitting smoke while it was still in his trouser pocket. Before Majid could take the phone out, it allegedly exploded, causing serious injuries. People nearby reportedly rushed to his aid and took him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Photos accompanying the viral post appear to show significant damage to the handset, including a badly charred battery area and a melted rear panel.
According to a post on the subreddit r/samsuunggalaxy, the incident was described as “Another day, another explosion: Galaxy S26 exploded in a man’s pocket in India, seriously injuring the owner.”
The post claimed that Majid was returning to his village in Dankaur after visiting Ghaziabad when he noticed his phone becoming unusually hot. He reportedly said that the device then began producing smoke, but before he could pull it out of his pocket, it allegedly exploded.
The blast reportedly left Majid with severe burns on both hands and the lower part of his body. Bystanders rushed to his aid and took him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment, according to the post.
The Reddit post further claimed that Majid had purchased the Samsung phone around a month before the incident from DG Com at The Grand Venice Mall in Greater Noida. According to his account, the handset had been functioning normally before the alleged explosion.
Questioning what may have caused the incident, the post ended with a sarcastic remark aimed at Samsung: “How do you now explain this Samsung? Is it also because the owner dropped it on the ground? 🤣”
The claim subsequently gained traction on social media and was also shared on X by @Cartidise, prompting users to debate whether smartphone manufacturers should be held responsible when devices allegedly overheat or catch fire.
One user questioned the basic safety of smartphones, writing, “Do you think we live in microwave oven? any temperature human can live in should not explode phones. or they shouldnt be selling them to india,’ said one user.”
Another user directly tagged Samsung’s India and global accounts, saying, “Hey, @SamsungIndia and @SamsungMobile should really be taking care of this user’s medical condition and expenses. 🏥💰 If someone’s phone explodes within six months of buying it and this phone was just released 6 months ago, Samsung needs to be accountable and responsible for protecting the user’s rights and trust. 🛡️🤝”
A third user drew comparisons with Samsung’s previous battery-related controversy, commenting, “Samsung Repeating the samsung Note 7 mistakes?”
Another wrote, “Even after buying flagship device of Samsung but still from the Samsung like he was using basic budget device. Samsung forgot the recent consumer sued them and win the case.”
A further comment alleged, “What people expect from Samsung? They literally sells faulty screen to phone manufacturer so the greenline issues appir.”
Another user called for compensation, saying, “Samsung should pay a lot of money in my opinion, to this guy and everyone else involved.”
