A Bengaluru techie who quit his corporate job to take up farming was killed after being struck by lightning in a paddy field near Mysuru on Tuesday, according to media reports.
The victim was identified as Hosoklu Roshan Balakrishna, son of the late Hosoklu Balakrishna of Heravanad village near Madikeri in Kodagu district.
Roshan had earlier worked in the IT sector but recently quit his job. Along with his colleague, he had started agricultural activities and was involved in introducing modern farming equipment and marketing it.
According to the information available, Roshan, his wife and son had stopped near Yelwala to visit their property. When he went to pluck mangoes, lightning struck him, and he collapsed on the spot.
Another person who was with him also suffered injuries in the incident but escaped unharmed otherwise.
Roshan’s funeral was held in Heravanad. He is survived by his wife and son.
The Mysuru district disaster management unit has initiated the process of extending financial assistance to the family of Roshan Balakrishna. The family will receive a total compensation of Rs 5 lakh.
Of the total amount, Rs 4 lakh will be disbursed from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), while the remaining Rs 1 lakh will come from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
