The Chinsurah District Court on Friday denied bail in an alleged rape case to Delhi Capitals and Bengal wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel, sending the 23-year-old into judicial custody for 14 days.

Porel was produced before the court after completion of a three-day police custody in relation to an FIR filed by a Karnataka-based medical student at the Mogra Police Station in Hooghly district on June 23. The survivor’s complaint included several charges, including murder threat, forceful confinement, abuse, and cheating, besides rape.

Kunwar Bhushan Singh, Superintendent of Police, Hooghly (Rural) told Sportstar: “Most of the charges against him (Porel) are non-bailable and sensitive.”

This order comes after an anticipatory bail application of Porel was rejected earlier. Porel was arrested on Monday from Emami City based on the Calcutta High Court’s July 21 direction “to take him in custody immediately and also to seize his electronic devices.”
