Bangladesh national held in Kollam

T’puram: A 47-year-old Bangladeshi national who was allegedly residing illegally in Kollam for several months was arrested by Kollam east police near Pullikada on Sunday. The arrested person was identified as Mohammed Naddu Hasan, of Delakpur in Bangladesh. Police said he was taken into custody during a verification drive conducted in the area. According to investigators, Hasan had been staying in Kollam for months without valid documents authorising his stay in India. During the inspection, police recovered a Bangladeshi national identity card from his possession, which confirmed his nationality. Police said further inquiries are under way to ascertain when and how he entered the country and whether he had been employed or residing at different locations in the district. Authorities are also examining whether any local individuals or agencies facilitated his stay. A senior police officer said the arrest was part of intensified checks being carried out to identify foreign nationals residing in the district without valid travel or immigration documents. Police registered a case and initiated further investigation.
