17-year-old dies in multivehicle accident
Sujin Kumar succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kattakada

T’puram: A 17-year-old boy was killed and his mother sustained serious injuries in a multivehicle accident at Mylakkara near Kallikkad on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Sujin Kumar, of Perekkonam, Vazhichal. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kattakada. According to police, Kumar was riding a motorcycle with his mother, Greeshma, as the pillion rider when the accident occurred. The duo was travelling from Vazhichal to Kallikkad when the motorcycle reportedly rammed into an autorickshaw moving ahead of them. The bike then collided with another motorcycle and a car coming from the opposite direction. The impact threw both riders onto the road. Kumar suffered a severe head injury after falling on the road, while Greeshma sustained serious injuries to her leg, hand and other parts of her body. Locals rushed to the scene and shifted them to Neyyar Medicity Hospital, Kattakada. However, doctors could not save Sujin’s life despite efforts to revive him. Greeshma remains under treatment at the hospital. Kattakada police registered a case under the provisions of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the accident. The body was shifted to the Govt Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, for postmortem examination. Police said statements of witnesses are being recorded and further enquiries are under way.
