Ballari: Deputy commissioner K Nagendra Prasad on Thursday rode a motorcycle during a helmet awareness rally organised by the district police and traffic police department in Ballari city.Addressing the programme, he said wearing helmets has been made mandatory for two-wheeler riders in the district to ensure road safety and protect lives. He urged the public to follow traffic rules voluntarily and not seek exemptions from the helmet rule.SP Suman D Pennekar said 462 people died in bike accidents in Ballari district between 2023 and April 2026, averaging one death every two days. She stressed the need for compulsory helmet use.Officials said helmet-wearing will be enforced strictly across the district from June 1. During the event, 100 helmets were distributed to pourakarmikas and members of the public.A bike rally was later taken out through major roads in the city as part of the awareness campaign.Photo: 14-DC Helmet
