‘Are Girls Even Safe While Travelling’: Woman Says Elderly Men Kept Touching Her On Train In Bihar
What was supposed to be a routine train journey for a young woman turned out to be a nightmare for her after she was repeatedly harassed by a bunch of elderly men. Taking to Instagram account, she shared a post, recounting the unsettling experience while travelling in a general coach. Her account has once again ignited concerns about women’s safety on public transport.
In the post, the woman revealed that the incident took place on July 3 while she was travelling from Siwan to Patliputra by train in the general compartment. “Just imagine the level of discomfort I went through on the train. This is a true incident that happened to me,” she wrote.

She said she had climbed onto an upper berth and fallen asleep during the journey. When the train reached Chhapra, several elderly men came in and occupied the seat below her. She alleged that while she was asleep, one of them repeatedly stretched his hand towards her and touched her.
“I politely asked him, ‘Uncle, please keep your hand down, but he ignored me,” she mentioned. “Instead, he started trying to touch me from the front, making me feel extremely uncomfortable.” Although their behaviour stopped briefly, she claimed it resumed after some time.
She shared, “After a while, he stopped, and I finally felt a little relieved. But soon, he started touching me again. I sat up and moved as far away as I could on the berth. As if that wasn’t enough, another elderly man also reached up and touched me.”
Unable to tolerate the situation any longer, she said she left the coach and moved to another compartment. However, finding it overcrowded, she instead sat near the entrance outside an AC coach. But her woes did not end there.
She alleged that another uncomfortable encounter followed. This time, a young man approached her, claiming to be associated with an examination centre. He repeatedly offered to help her clear an exchange for money and persistently asked for her phone number.
“Even after I refused several times and told him I didn’t need any help, he insisted, saying, ‘Just save my number as a brother—it might help you someday,’” she said. “I still refused, and thankfully, he got off at Dighwara. Only then did I finally feel a little safe.”
Reflecting on the experience, the woman questioned the safety of women travelling alone on trains. “So the question is… are girls even safe while traveling on trains? What kind of mentality do some men have today?” she wrote.
Her post has sparked discussion on the platform, with many users expressing concern over the safety of women in public transport and urging authorities to take action the perpetrators.
“This is truly disturbing. Harassment is not limited to one gender, and this incident proves that anyone can become a victim. I’m glad you trusted your instincts and moved away. Everyone deserves to travel safely without fear or discomfort. I hope the authorities take such incidents more seriously,” one user said.
“Complaint karna chahiye tha usi time,” another quipped.
Someone else suggested, “Carry whatever pointed things u can hair pins safety pins and just poke them and call the police till police comes u can be a little releaved”
“Take action on it immediately. If you are not taking any action they will try again with someone else. This type of people is everywhere,” an individual said.
A different person mentioned, “This is so heinous I mean what kind of obsession is this of touching without consent.”
