Mahua Moitra’s brief reaction during Lok Sabha goes viral.

A brief moment involving Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra during proceedings in the Lok Sabha has gone viral on social media after a heated exchange in the House.

The incident occurred while TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee was participating in the discussion on the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. As Banerjee addressed the House on the issue of paper leaks, treasury bench members repeatedly interrupted his speech, leading to a noisy atmosphere.

Amid the disruptions, Moitra was seen urging the Chair to restore order. She repeatedly appealed, saying, “Sir, unko chup karaiye” and “Chup raho, charcha hone do,” while asking members to remain seated so the debate could continue.

The confrontation intensified as the Chair repeatedly directed Moitra to return to her seat and stop shouting. Once the proceedings resumed, Moitra took her seat, put on her headphones and let out a brief laugh, which appeared sarcastic and was picked up by the House microphones. The clip has since been widely shared on social media.

Despite the tense exchanges between the treasury and Opposition benches, the discussion on the Bill continued.

Abhishek Banerjee Backs Bill, Targets Government

Speaking during the debate, Abhishek Banerjee said the TMC supports the Bill but not the government, arguing that the legislation cannot erase the humiliation suffered by lakhs of students affected by paper leaks.

He said the Bill cannot wipe away the memories of students who sought justice but were met with barricades and pellet guns instead of compassion. Banerjee also said the legislation cannot undo the cancellation of examinations or restore the dreams of aspirants that had been shattered.

“Support for this Bill cannot be a substitute for accountability. A stringent law is necessary, but by itself it is not sufficient. If examinations continue to be compromised by systemic failures, no amendment, however stringent, will restore the faith that millions of students have lost. That is the question before this august House today,” he said.
