An ordinary flight from Phuket to Delhi turned frightening after the aircraft encountered severe turbulence, with the aircraft said to have suddenly dropped around 300 feet. The incident left many passengers and cabin crew members injured. After the flight landed at its destination, injured people were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Following the incident, a woman named Shilpi Jain, who was on the same flight, recounted details of the moment and called it a “near-death experience.” In the clip that she posted on her Instagram account, she showed her boarding pass and said she was seated in seat 23F towards the back of the aircraft when the turbulence had struck.

“Jo flight Phuket se Delhi aa rahi thi, usme kaafi passengers injured huye hain and cabin crew bhi injured hua hai. Uss flight mein main bhi thi (The passengers and the cabin crew on the flight that was coming from Phuket to Delhi were injured. I was on the flight as well),” she said at the beginning of the video.

She said the aircraft experienced a sudden drop, causing passengers to be thrown from their seats and collide with the ceiling of the cabin. She described scenes of panic inside the aircraft, saying several passengers around her suffered injuries due to the impact.

Jain then praised the cabin crew for assisting passengers during the emergency. However, she alleged that they asked passengers not to share videos of the incident on social media. “Crew members ne kaafi acche se support kiya, that I appreciate. But un logon ne ek cheez boli, ki video banake kahin mat daalna, isse hamari reputation ko thes pahunchega, reputation kharab hogi (The crew members were really supportive. However, they asked us not to film any video and post on social media as it might impact their reputation),” she explained.

She said that the flight could have crashed, yet the crew only thought about the airline’s reputation and asked them to “own” their fault. She also questioned why the flight continued to Delhi instead of making an emergency landing at a closer airport, which was Lucknow, following the turbulence, claiming that passengers would get better medical attention in Delhi.

However, that was not the case, as they were made to wait after landing in Delhi. Jain claimed that stretchers were not immediately available. Some passengers were then transported using wheelchairs. At last, she urged people to fly with airlines that people are very confident about.

The caption accompanying her post read, “Air India Incident. Near Death Experience.”

Internet Has Mixed Reactions To Her Account Of The Incident

The video has since drawn widespread attention on social media, with users expressing concern over the incident, while some said that the passenger made the video solely for views. Meanwhile, a person noted that turbulence is unpredictable and can occur on any airline, regardless of its safety standards.

“Very sad .. but I also think that we have seen how Air India has been performing for many years ..and knowing everything, people still book Air India,” wrote a user.

“Be grateful that you are saved because of the pilots; this is unanticipated turbulence, it happens, last year happened with Singapore Airlines, everything is content. Always complaining, my goddd,” another said.

“Fault in aircraft ??? Seriously? Get some knowledge, then make a reel about it,” an individual remarked.

Someone else shared, “Turbulence is a natural phenomenon and not a technical problem. Get yourself educated properly before criticising anyone.”

Meanwhile, someone said, “Dear ma’am… I have nothing to do with it, but you must know the reason. It’s not a flight technical fault, nor is it related to Air India …. The pilot deliberately lowered our altitude to avoid rough air and keep us safe… it’s a completely normal and controlled manoeuvre.”
