Safety of women in India again became a topic of discussion when a trans woman shared a disturbing encounter she had experienced while taking a break during a ride. Taking to X, she shared the incident, where an older man made a lewd remark, highlighting how women routinely face harassment at public spaces.
Navleen Kaur, who resides in Mumbai, shared that she had stopped under a shady tree to drink some water during a ride when the older man, whom she referred to as an “uncle”, approached her. She initially did not hear what he said because she was wearing earphones. However, she noticed him moving closer towards her.
“Women Have It Worse”
“While riding today, I sat under a shady tree to drink some water, an uncle reached out to me and asked me ‘Chalegi Kya,’” she said. “I didn’t listen to it before, because I had earphones on, but then he kept coming closer and closer and closer, then he tried to put arm around me.”
Feeling threatened, she said she shouted for help, which alerted a few constriction workers who were having lunch nearby to come over. Despite their presence, she claimed that the man appeared unfazed. “I kinda shouted and there were few men working in construction around having lunch who came there and that uncle still wasn’t bothered much,” Navleen wrote. “I literally ran from there.”
Reflecting on the experience, she said she was surprised to have encountered such behaviour. She said, “I am not even passable enough(at least from what I feel), and that’s happening to me, women have it worse tbh. Maybe it was the welcome into the womenhood it seems.”

“They Spare Nobody”
The post quickly gained attention online, with many users expressing concern over the incident.
