Guwahati: The state govt said it has completed preparations for the NEET-UG re-examination, deputing senior state civil service officers as state observers to monitor proceedings across regions and assigning magistrates to keep watch on strong rooms storing question papers.Assam Police and central security forces have taken over security around examination centres, officials said on the eve of the test scheduled for Sunday. Designated magistrates maintained constant vigil in strong rooms in banks where question papers were stored, while special vigilance was undertaken to secure strong rooms in examination centres where the papers will be opened.Military personnel have been assigned to transport the question papers. Sources said the papers will be moved to examination centres in several districts on Sunday, hours before the exam begins.State health minister Ashok Singhal on Saturday reviewed preparedness at the control room of the directorate of medical education in Guwahati with senior departmental and police officials. “For thousands of young medical aspirants of Assam, this examination is a gateway to their dreams, and we are taking every measure to ensure a secure, fair and transparent examination, safeguarding both the sanctity of the process and the aspirations of our youth,” Singhal wrote in a social media post after the meeting.Sources said examination centres will be monitored live from the control room during exam hours. “The footage from the examination centres will be under strict vigilance at the control room and at the same time efforts will be undertaken to address the grievances of the candidates, if any,” a senior state health department official said.Senior state civil service officers assigned district responsibilities also checked jammers and other measures. “Mobile phones will not be allowed to be taken inside the examination centres, even by the on-duty officials,” an official said, adding that double-layer frisking will be conducted as candidates enter.“Both Assam Police and central security forces will assist in smooth conduct of the examination. Magistrates have been deputed and they have been monitoring the examination centres,” the official said.Officials said adequate CCTV cameras have been installed in rooms, particularly where question papers will be opened.A total of 43,319 candidates have registered to appear at 87 test centres across 17 districts in Assam.
