Kanpur: Residents of Kanpur continued to grapple with intense heat on Saturday as temperatures rose further despite intermittent cloud cover, with the maximum temperature touching 42.2°C.According to weather data, the maximum temperature increased by more than one degree Celsius from Friday’s 41°C, while the minimum temperature rose sharply by 2.5 degrees to 29.6°C. The combination of high temperatures and humidity made conditions particularly uncomfortable, especially during the night.Many residents reported little relief from coolers and ceiling fans as sultry weather conditions persisted. The scorching heat also kept people indoors for much of the day, resulting in reduced activity in markets and public places.Maximum relative humidity was recorded at 56 per cent. Dry north-westerly winds blowing at speeds ranging from 5.8 kmph to 11.7 kmph further intensified the heatwave-like conditions across the city.According to the India Meteorological Department, weather conditions across the Kanpur division are expected to remain predominantly clear, hot and dry over the next 24 hours. Maximum temperatures in most districts are likely to remain between 41°C and 43°C, while minimum temperatures may hover between 29°C and 31°C.For Kanpur Nagar, the IMD has forecast mainly clear skies with bright sunshine and no significant possibility of rainfall. Dry north-westerly winds of 12–15 kmph are expected to enhance the heatwave effect during the daytime.Weather expert S. N. Sunil Pandey said that increased atmospheric moisture could lead to cloud movement, gusty winds and isolated light rain or drizzle in some areas. However, he noted that humid conditions and warm nights are likely to persist.Dr Pandey said temperatures across the Kanpur division may fluctuate by one to two degrees on Sunday but warned that heat intensity could increase further once clear skies and strong sunshine return.Officials have advised residents to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours, remain hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
