Mysuru: The seventh edition of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 tournament got off to a spectacular start at the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Ground in Mysuru on Saturday, ushering in Karnataka’s premier franchise cricket competition amid much fanfare.Organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), the tournament promises to be a major attraction for cricket enthusiasts following the conclusion of the IPL. The opening ceremony featured a captivating performance by playback singer Vijay Prakash, who enthralled the audience with popular Kannada and Hindi songs, including Singara Siriye, Gombe Helutaithe and Jai Ho.Among those present were former Indian captain and current ICC chairman Roger Binny, University of Mysore vice-chancellor K Lokanath, KSCA secretary Santosh Menon, former India cricketers Javagal Srinath and Sujith Somasundar. Roger Binny and Prof Lokanath officially unveiled the tournament trophy at the conclusion of the ceremony.The tournament will be held in three phases from June 20 to July 12. The opening leg, comprising 12 matches, will be played at the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Ground in Mysuru from June 20 to 25. Six teams — Mysore Warriors, Mangaluru Coastal Kings, Gulbarga Mystics, Hubli Tigers, Bengaluru Blasters and Shivamogga Lions — will compete for the title.
