Ludhiana: A woman out on bail over her husband’s suicide was charged with kidnapping her six-year-old daughter from the girl’s grandparents when police found the child in her home.The girl went missing while playing outside her grandparents’ home in the Gulabni Bagh area of Tibba. Following a search, the family discovered the child’s mother, Gulsafa, had taken the girl with the assistance of an accomplice, Nukano.Police rescued the girl from Gulsafa’s home in Daba shortly after the grandfather, Mohammad Yameen, filed a complaint on June 17. The family told police they feared Gulsafa would harm the child.The investigating officer, assistant sub-inspector Kamaljeet Singh, said the girl had been living with her grandparents since 2025, following the death of her father, Irfan, who died by suicide.Gulsafa had previously been arrested and released on bail after Irfan’s family accused her of harassment, leading to a charge of abetment to suicide.Police registered a first-information report (FIR) against Gulsafa and Nukano under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for wrongful confinement, kidnapping, and acting with common intention. A hunt is on for both suspects.
