Coimbatore: The directorate of vigilance and anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials conducted a surprise raid at the Coimbatore central regional transport office (RTO) on Thursday, and seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 63,100.The crackdown was part of a statewide operation, with DVAC sleuths conducting simultaneous raids at several RTOs across multiple districts in Tamil Nadu. As part of this drive, a team targeted the Coimbatore central RTO, located opposite the police training school on Balasundaram Road.DVAC additional superintendent of police (ADSP) Rajesh led a 14-member team, including three inspectors, and conducted the search. The action followed tip-offs on brokers collecting hefty bribes from the public for various services, including driving licences, vehicle registrations and fitness certificates (FC).DVAC sleuths searched more than five driving school cars parked on the premises and questioned several brokers. The search led to the seizure of Rs 63,100 in unaccounted cash. A DVAC official stated that most of the money was seized from brokers, with just 2000 in unaccounted cash seized from an RTO official.“A detailed investigation will be conducted and a case will be registered against people who took bribes,” an official said. Further investigation is underway, with police scrutinising the documents seized during the raid.
