‘Actually Very Cheap’: Internet Defends Rs 2,000 Uber Fare From Noida International Airport To Delhi’s Saket
The much-awaited Noida International Airport in Jewar officially began flight operations on Monday, June 15, marking a major milestone for air connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR). However, alongside celebrations of the airport’s launch, a social media post highlighting cab fares from the new facility to Delhi has sparked an online debate.
Located in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district, the airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28. It is now the second international airport serving the Delhi-NCR region after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Soon after the operations began, an X user shared a screenshot of an Uber fare estimate for a trip from Jewar airport to Saket in South Delhi. “This is Uber from Jewar airport to Saket,” the user wrote, along with an image showing the fare crossing the Rs 2,000 mark.
The image showed Uber Go at Rs 2,018.83, UberXL at Rs 2,887.82, and Premium at Rs 2,418.94. It is worth noting that the user did not share the exact time at which they were looking for fares.
Internet Calls The Uber Fare “Reasonable”
The post quickly gained traction on social media, with some users expressing surprise at the fare. However, many others were quick to point out that the pricing appeared reasonable given the distance involved.
Pointing out that the journey from Jewar Airport to Saket is roughly 80 kilometres, one user said, “Do a real job, 2000 for 80 km is actually very cheap, it will cost 15000 in New York.”
“That’s quite reasonable for an 80 Km Uber ride,” mentioned another person.
“This is what I pay for a private cab from Mumbai to Pune. But why would you land in Noida if you live near Saket?” asked one user.
“I do not think Jewar airport is for people living in Delhi. It is only for people living near the Yamuna Expressway,” remarked someone else.
“Why would you fly to Jewar if you live in Saket? Bonkers for you. For most Delhiites, their primary airport will be IGI. Jewar is meant to move traffic away from IGI that doesn’t need to be inside Delhi. Every infra spend isn’t for the metropolitan elite,” commented someone else.
Meanwhile, an individual said, “Even NIAL to Indirapuram is 1700-2000 INR. So, even for people living in Noida, this is an expensive option.”
“A flight from Gwalior to Delhi is cheaper than this,” said one user sharing a picture, which revealed that the price of the cheapest flight from Gwalior to Delhi is Rs 2,199.
