Kanpur: Mercury rose once again on Sunday, bringing back intense heat anddiscomfort for residents after a brief respite of one day. The combinationof soaring temperatures and high humidity left citizens perspiringthroughout the day.The city recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius, nearly 3degrees higher than Saturday’s 34.2 degrees Celsius. However, the minimumtemperature settled at 25.6 degrees Celsius, providing some relief duringthe night hours.According to weather data, maximum relative humidity was recorded at 70percent, while north-easterly winds swept across the city at a speed of 4.6km per hour. Though heatwave conditions were not felt on Sunday,the high humidity level led to sultry weather conditions and excessivesweating, troubling residents.The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that weatherconditions across all districts of the Kanpur division will remain mainlyclear and hot over the next 24 hours. Maximum temperatures inKanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Etawah, Farrukhabad, Kannauj and Auraiya arelikely to range between 39 degrees Celsius and 44 degrees Celsius. Intensesunshine and severe heatwave conditions are expected to prevail during thedaytime.In Kanpur Nagar, the sky is expected to remain mainly clear with brightsunshine, though light clouds may appear during afternoon hours. Themaximum temperature may touch around 43 degrees Celsius. Hotwest-northwesterly winds blowing at speeds of 10 to 15 km per hour arelikely to intensify heatwave-like conditions in the city.Meanwhile, Dr. S. Sunil Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, said thatdue to atmospheric humidity, temperatures in the Kanpur division areexpected to rise gradually, resulting in continued sultry and humidconditions.
