Kanpur: The testimony of a six-year-old girl helped police crack the alleged murder of her mother, nearly two months after her father allegedly electrocuted her and passed off her death as an accident before cremating the body to destroy evidence. Beconganj police on Monday arrested the 45-year-old accused.According to police, the accused’s daughter, Arabiya, later revealed the incident to relatives, following which police intervened, exhumed the body and registered an FIR.Police alleged that on May 27, a day before Bakrid, the accused, Intezar Ahmed, switched on a faulty refrigerator and then allegedly pushed his wife, Nisha Kausar, 40, towards it, causing her death by electrocution.Investigators said Ahmed had a history of assaulting his wife. In 2017, an attempt-to-murder case was registered against him for allegedly attacking her. A non-bailable warrant had recently been issued against him in that case, following which he was sent to jail.Police alleged that Ahmed killed his wife to avenge what he perceived as humiliation arising from the case lodged against him.According to Beconganj station house officer Matin Khan, the accused also attempted to take his daughter away in a bid to conceal the crime. However, timely intervention by relatives and police led to his arrest and helped crack the case.
