In a shocking incident that has surfaced on social media from Brazil, a 21-year-old woman lost her life after allegedly being launched from a bridge swing without a safety rope attached to her harness. The incident has sparked outrage and a police investigation has been launched for possible negligence.
The victim, identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, died after falling around 40 metres from a bridge at the Ponte do Esqueleto trail in Limeira, located in Brazil’s São Paulo state.
A video of the incident showed Maria being carried by two workers at the bridge swing in a horizontal position before being released. Moments after she was launched into the air, the staff members realised they forgot to tie the safety rope to her and were heard shouting, “The rope, people, the rope.”
According to eyewitnesses cited in local reports, the staff members at the adventure attraction allegedly failed to attach the required safety rope to the woman’s harness before the jump. Authorities are examining whether safety protocols were ignored or improperly followed.
Police Arrested 6 People Related To The Case
Just hours before the fatal incident, Maria had reportedly shared posts on her social media documenting her visit to the attraction. She posted photos and videos from the location, including images showing wristbands and company representatives involved in the activity.
Authorities said six people connected to the attraction were arrested following the incident. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and determine whether there was any other ulterior motive.
“How Did They Forget?” Asks Internet
The viral video has sparked widespread anger online, with many questioning how such a basic safety check could have been missed.
“How did they forget? Isn’t that the whole point? And she didn’t protest at any point? This is fishy ngl,” said one user.
“The negligent staff responsible deserve to be fired and held fully accountable for their reckless incompetence that cost a precious life. This was preventable. My deepest condolences to the grieving family,” another user mentioned.

“All these people watching and not a single person said, ‘ Wait, hold up! Or tried to stop them,” asked one individual.
Someone else said, “Sadly, looks like she was posting on social media just minutes before the jump. She may have been distracted by mere eagerness to post online and take pictures. That’s killing people. The rest, must have been high. Unbelievable.”
Meanwhile, one person commented, “It’s not a ‘safety rope.’ That implies it’s there just to be safe.’ This is literally THE ROPE. It’s the entire reason she tried to do this. It is the ONLY requirement of this entire thing. You had one job. One. And failed.”
