Dibrugarh: State transformation and development minister Rameswar Teli on Sunday inaugurated the long-awaited rail overbridge at Madhabpur in Duliajan, marking a major infrastructure milestone for the oil township and the surrounding region.The 830-metre-long bridge, built at a cost of Rs 72 crore, is the first of its kind in Duliajan and is expected to significantly ease traffic on the Madhabpur-Tipling Road, a route that has long seen congestion and delays, particularly near railway crossings.Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Teli said the bridge was a long-pending demand of local residents. “This Rail Over Bridge has been a long-standing demand of the people of Duliajan, and I am happy that we have been able to deliver it today,” he said.Highlighting the collaboration behind the project, the minister said it was jointly funded by the Assam govt and Indian Railways. “The Assam govt has contributed Rs 47 crore, while Indian Railways has contributed Rs 25 crore towards this project, reflecting the kind of coordinated effort needed to improve our infrastructure,” Teli said.He added that the bridge would benefit both commuters and the local economy. “This bridge will not only ease traffic congestion but also ensure smoother and safer connectivity for the people of Duliajan, including those associated with OIL India Limited,” he said, noting that Duliajan is the field headquarters of OIL India Limited, one of the region’s largest public sector employers.Officials present at the event said the bridge would eliminate delays caused by railway crossings at Madhabpur, which had become a major bottleneck for commuters, goods vehicles, and emergency services moving in and out of the township.The inauguration drew a large gathering of local residents, officials, and project representatives. Several residents said the bridge would make daily commutes easier, especially during peak hours when traffic at the crossing often came to a standstill.With the Madhabpur bridge now operational, authorities expect smoother traffic flow on one of Duliajan’s key arterial roads, reducing travel time for residents, oil sector employees, and goods transporters who use the route regularly.
