The competition in the midsize SUV segment is quite intense, with multiple choices offering advanced technology, multiple engine options and modern styling. Hyundai’s Creta has dominated the category since its launch, followed by the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Kia Seltos. Car manufacturers such as Hyundai, Tata, JSW Motors and Nissan are now aiming to strengthen their presence in this highly competitive segment with new model launches over the coming years.

In the next two months, Tata and Nissan are set to launch their Hyundai Creta rival SUVs with electric and petrol powertrain options, respectively. Tata Motors will introduce the Sierra EV in June, while the Nissan Tekton will make its official debut on July 9, 2026.

Tata Sierra EV

Tata Sierra EV Launch Date

The Tata Sierra EV will come as an answer to the Hyundai Creta Electric, which is currently priced between Rs 18.02 lakh – Rs 24.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker has already confirmed that the EV will be available with both RWD and AWD configurations. It’s likely to borrow the 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs from the Harrier EV. Reports suggest that the Sierra EV might feature an IDU (Integrated Drive Unit) similar to the Punch EV.

Design elements such as the body-coloured closed-off grille, revised bumpers and areo-optimized alloy wheels will distinguish the Sierra EV from its ICE counterpart. The interior and feature list are likely to remain unchanged, expected from a few EV-specific software updates.

Nissan Tekton

Nissan Tekton Design

The Tekton is essentially Nissan’s derivative of the Renault Duster, featuring a different design language inspired by the flagship Patrol SUV. The SUV will share its platform and powertrains with the Duster. This means, it will come with the 100bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol and 163bhp, 1.3L direct-injection turbo petrol engine options. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be standard across both powertrains, while a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission will be exclusively offered with the turbo-petrol engine.

The Nissan Tekton will feature Patrol SUV inspired a wide grille with two chrome strips, LED headlamps, connected LED DRLs and dual-tone bumper at the front end. Other key highlights will include newly-designed alloy wheels, pronounced wheel arches, black trim on the door handles, connected LED taillamps, monotone tailgate and a roof-mounted spoiler.
