Varanasi: A baby monkey died after being shot with an airgun in a guava orchard at Raghauli village under the Ghosi Kotwali police station area in Mau district on Friday. Ghosi police arrested the accused.Following its death, several monkeys gathered at the spot, causing panic among villagers for some time. The mother of the baby monkey refused to leave the carcass and did not eat or drink after the incident till late evening.CO (Ghosi) Jitendra Kumar Singh on Saturday said Ghosi police station personnel reached the village and called the forest department. The carcass was cremated with rituals on the riverbank at Dohrighat.On a written complaint by villagers, police registered a case against Saifuddin alias Shaffar (55) of the village and arrested him, said Singh, adding that the airgun used in killing the baby monkey was also recovered.
