Mandya: A 33-year-old man was brutally murdered by his friends following a drunken altercation near Halaguru late on Monday night.The incident has shocked residents and raised concerns over alcohol-related violence. The deceased was identified as Manju alias Kashi, a resident of H Basapura village in Halaguru hobli.According to police sources, Manju and two of his friends spent the evening consuming alcohol at a local bar. After the establishment closed, the trio reportedly moved to an isolated spot near a bridge along the National Highway bypass and continued drinking. Around 11pm, a heated argument broke out among them, which quickly escalated into violence.In a fit of rage, the two accused—both named Siddaraju—allegedly attacked Manju with a broken beer bottle. They are said to have slit his throat and repeatedly stabbed him in the abdomen, inflicting fatal injuries. Manju died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.Upon receiving information, Mandya deputy superintendent of police VJ Shobharani rushed to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. The body was later shifted for postmortem. Halaguru police have registered a murder case and taken both accused into custody.
