Youth jailed for cop exam paper leak rumours

Varanasi: To seek popularity on social media, a youth posted a video on his account claiming that the UP Police constable recruitment paper was leaked at a centre in Azamgarh district and aspirants were on the rampage.Cyber police detected the post and the youth was arrested and sent to jail, said Azamgarh SP Anil Kumar on Tuesday.Keeping check on social media to detect rumours and bids to spread misinformation regarding UP Police Constable Recruitment Examination-2026, police department’s cyber cell found a video claiming that the exam’s question paper had leaked, after which aspirants were making hue and cry at one of the centres in Azamgarh district. When police examined the video, it came to light that the video was shot on Apr 17 in Noida and it had no connection with any centre of the Police Recruitment Examination-2026 held in Azamgarh or any other centre in the state.Later, on the basis of technical analysis and digital tracing, the Instagram user was identified as Ashutosh Kumar Maurya (21) of Gaurinarayanpur under Bilariyaganj police station. Cyber crime cell and kotwali police personnel nabbed him and lodged a case under section 353(2) (circulating false information) of BNS and Section 66D IT Act.When police interrogated Maurya, he said he was seeking to increase viewership of his post. Kumar warned that those spreading fake and misleading content on social media related to examinations and public order are under surveillance of Cyber Cell.
