Yamaha New Electric Scooter

Yamaha has revealed the design of a new electric scooter through a patent filing in Japan, with the upcoming model featuring a compact and sporty design

Yamaha appears to be working on a new electric scooter for the global market. The company has filed a patent in Japan. It gives us some insight on what the scooter could look like. Interestingly, the new scooter looks quite different from the recently launched Aerox-E.

The upcoming Yamaha electric scooter gets a sharp front apron with quad LED headlamps. The design appears compact and sporty, while the flat floorboard should make it more practical for everyday use. It also features a single-piece seat and a digital instrument console, giving it a more conventional scooter layout compared to the performance-focused Aerox-E.

The scooter seems to be riding on 12-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes at both ends. There is also a telescopic fork at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. While this setup is fairly conventional, it should help Yamaha offer a comfortable and predictable ride for everyday users.

Yamaha appears to have opted for a mid-mounted electric motor, with power being sent to the rear wheel through a belt drive. The battery pack is positioned under the seat. This is different from the Aerox-E, which uses two removable battery packs mounted in the floorboard area.

Yamaha has not revealed the battery capacity, motor output or claimed range of the new electric scooter yet. The patent filing is also not confirmation that the model will be launched in India. However, Yamaha has been steadily expanding its electric two-wheeler plans, and the new scooter could even form part of a wider global portfolio.
The new model will be positioned differently from the Aerox-E, which is a performance-oriented electric scooter with a 9.5 kW motor and a claimed range of 117 km. The Aerox-E uses dual 1.5 kWh removable batteries.

Yamaha has been relatively slow to expand its electric scooter portfolio in India compared to several of its rivals. However, the company has now started to make its presence felt with the Aerox-E. This new scooter seems like something customers in India will appreciate. The more conventional design is widely accepted. The Ather Rizta is a proof of this fact.
