What was supposed to be any other ordinary journey turned harrowing for a family whose luggage containing cash, important documents, medicines and other valuables was stolen from the train, that too from inside an AC First Class coach. The incident happened aboard Bengaluru SF Express, travelling from Howrah to SMVT Bengaluru.
The family alleged that the incident occurred sometime before they woke up, probably early in the morning. The clip posted on social media showed that the door of the cabin was broken by the thieves. They managed to run away with the family’s belongings without waking them up or being noticed by anybody.
A fellow passenger, who had filmed the video, interacted with the woman, who claimed that there was Rs 1,10,000 cash in their luggage along with important documents, ID proofs, and medicines for her baby. Later, they found out that their papers and belongings were scattered inside the train washroom, while the valuables were still missing.
Questioning the safety inside the train despite booking tickets for AC First Class, the passenger said, “First Class mein travel karne ka ek hi purpose hota hai safety, samaan ki safety, bacche ki safety aur sochiye yahan bhi safety nahi hai, yahan bhi chori ho jaa raha hai (The main purpose of travelling in First Class is safety, safety of luggage, safety of child but here is no safety either as there has been a theft).”
Later in the clip, the woman, whose belongings were stolen, expressed disappointment with the response they allegedly received from the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Officials told them the theft had occurred because they were asleep.
“Kuch Bhi Safe Nahi Hai”
The incident immediately garnered attention online, with many users questioning the level of security provided in premium coaches while others lashed out at the authorities for not taking prompt action against the perpetrators.
One user wrote, “What kind of maintenance is SRC CDO performing? This is a serious lapse in the safety of passengers paying premium fares for First AC travel.”
“Kuch bhi safe nhi h iss desh mei,” quipped another person.
“Take the first AC attendant into police custody first. Check the CCTV footage. Case solved,” suggested someone else.
