Yaba tablets worth Rs 1 crore seized in Sribhumi, 2 held

Silchar: Assam Police seized 10,000 Yaba tablets, valued at around Rs 1 crore, and arrested two alleged drug peddlers in Sribhumi district on Saturday.Acting on specific intelligence, a team from Sribhumi Sadar police station launched surveillance along the national highway near Sharifnagar on the outskirts of the town after receiving information that two persons were moving with a narcotics consignment on foot.Police intercepted the two suspects and searched the bags they were carrying. The search led to the recovery of 10,000 Yaba tablets, which were seized under provisions of the NDPS Act.The arrested persons were identified as Mohit Ahmed and Asit Paul, both residents of Sribhumi district. They were taken to Sribhumi Sadar police station for interrogation.Police said the seized tablets are estimated to be worth around Rs 1 crore in the international black market. Investigators are trying to ascertain the source of the consignment, the trafficking network involved, and its intended destination.The seizure comes amid Assam Police’s continuing crackdown on narcotics smuggling, particularly in districts bordering neighbouring states and countries.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the operation in a post on X and congratulated Sribhumi police for the seizure. He said the state govt would continue its campaign against drugs.
