A violent confrontation involving a group of tourists from Gurugram has triggered outrage across social media after a viral video showed one man allegedly using a plastic milk crate to attack locals on Mussoorie’s Mall Road. The late-night incident reportedly injured two people and ended with the arrest of the accused.
According to The Tribune, the accused, identified as Neeraj Raghav, a resident of Sikanderpur in Gurugram, was arrested by Mussoorie Police following the violent clash that took place on the night of June 28.
After undergoing a medical examination, he was booked under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita for disturbing public order and was later produced before the Executive Magistrate.
As per the report, four tourists from Gurugram had travelled to Mussoorie in a Toyota Innova Hycross between 10 pm and 11 pm. Near the Bata showroom on Mall Road, their vehicle allegedly collided with a car belonging to a local resident, resulting in a heated argument.
What reportedly began as a verbal exchange soon escalated into violence. Police said Neeraj allegedly picked up an empty plastic milk crate that had been lying outside a nearby shop and struck a local man on the head with it.
During the commotion, a woman who attempted to intervene was also allegedly hit on the head with the crate, causing her to collapse onto the road.
Another version of the incident cited by police stated that the confrontation began after the tourists’ vehicle allegedly came dangerously close to a local couple who were returning home.
The couple reportedly objected to the manner in which the vehicle was being driven, following which an argument broke out. Investigators alleged that the tourists got out of the vehicle and assaulted both the husband and wife, with one of them repeatedly using the plastic milk crate during the attack.
Pradeep Gupta, who owns a confectionery shop nearby, told police that the tourists allegedly continued assaulting local residents for nearly ten minutes before passersby intervened and managed to overpower the accused. Several witnesses also alerted the authorities by calling the 112 emergency helpline.
A police team reached the spot shortly afterward, brought the situation under control and detained the accused. Officials also issued a challan to the Toyota Innova Hycross under the Motor Vehicles Act for alleged traffic violations. Police said their prompt response helped prevent the situation from escalating further, while legal proceedings in the matter are continuing.
The video of the incident quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing strong reactions from users. Many expressed concern over the level of violence seen in the footage, while others debated the circumstances surrounding the clash.
“These people shouldn be jailed for rest of their life,” said one user.
“Wtf .. is she alive?” said another.
“Ye dekh ke lag raha hai tourist ne bhaiya thoda adjust kar do’ bol diya hoga locals ko 😂 Pure chaos on Mall Road!” said a third.
“That doesn’t appear to be self defense in any way. Hitting people straight on their heads is nothing but an attempt to kill,” wrote a fourth.
