LUCKNOW: The Government Railway Police (GRP), Lucknow, on Sunday launched an investigation into the murder of an unidentified woman whose dismembered body was found concealed inside a box and a heavy-duty cargo bag in the sleeper coach of the Chhapra-Gomti Nagar Express.The gruesome discovery was made after the train completed its 503-km journey and terminated at Gomti Nagar railway station at 6:35 am.According to the railway officials, a team of sanitary workers cleaning the S1 sleeper coach noticed an unclaimed box and a heavy-duty cargo bag lying near the lavatory.‘Woman murdered 12 hours before body was recovered’Suspicious about the unattended luggage, railway authorities informed the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) around 10:30 am.The box and bag were brought onto the platform for inspection. Since the box was locked, officials used a hammer to break it open. On opening it, they found the torso of a woman dressed in a blood-soaked salwar kurti. During further examination, police recovered the victim’s limbs wrapped in polythene and packed inside the heavy-duty cargo bag.Police said the victim’s head was missing.Speaking to TOI, GRP Superintendent of Police Rohit Mishra said the victim appeared to be around 30 years old and was likely murdered 10 to 12 hours before the body was recovered.“Three police teams have been formed to examine CCTV footage from stations along the train route to identify the person who carried the body onboard,” Mishra said.One team was sent to contact passengers of the S1 coach to find any clue about the person who loaded the box and bag onto the train.Police suspect the body parts were transported on the train after the murder to conceal the crime and mislead investigators. Forensic experts were called to collect evidence from the coach and the recovered luggage.
